Dream Big

Do you have an idea that could change the world, or at least make their lives better? If so, entrepreneurship might just be for you. That is not all that you need. A lot of what you need to become a entrepreneur can help you be a better person. What are some of those things? • Be willing to fail. This is so that you can learn and grow. • Find something you love and go for it. • Be willing to always have a learning mind. • Find people or steppingstones that can help you move along your path. • What is your calling in life? Figure this out and you will know what you need to do next. • Be a person of integrity. • Don’t compromise on your ethics. • Learn to manage ourselves with the time we have. • “Success is usually earned by persevering and not becoming discouraged when we encounter challenges”. (President James E. Faust, “Perseverance”) • Success is gauged by self-mastery. • Develop good habits. o Be proactive. o Begin with the end in mind. o First thin...

Gratitude

There is a saying from the 1940s, “Accentuate the positive; Eliminate the negative. Latch on to the affirmative; Don’t mess with Mr. In-between”. I think so much in life right now is focusing on the negative. It makes life hard somedays. This quote makes us look for the good among the bad and focus on that. I know that if we do this it will not only change our life but those we come in contact with. There is a saying that is, “Be the good in the world”. Part of that is seeing the good and pointing it out. President Thomas S. Monson has a talk about having and “Attitude of Gratitude”. What does that even mean? It means to be grateful for everything that we have. Even though there is bad it is up to us to find the good. President Monson tells us, “We can lift ourselves, and others as well, when we refuse to remain in the realm of negative thought and cultivate within our hearts and attitude of gratitude”. With the Christmas season upon us this idea is one that can only make our s...

Who Can I Help?

This week I had a chance to reread, “Are we Not All Beggars?” by Elder Jeffrey R. Holland. I do have favorites when it comes to apostles and Elder Holland is my favorite. He has a way of teaching and bringing true emotion to his talks. This one is no different. His powerful and thought-provoking words challenge each of us with our perspective on the concept of worthiness and our dependence on one another. We all need God, and we need His grace and mercy. I learned from Elder Holland that we can use personal experiences to share our message. It is in our own stories and things we go through and share that we can learn, grow, and help each other along our paths in this life. Elder Holland reminds us that it is through our willingness to recognize our weaknesses and rely on God’s strength that we can find true happiness and fulfillment. We live in a world where it is kind of every man for themselves way of life. We know that isn’t how it should be. We are here to help each other...

Money

Money can bring a lot of different emotions to a person’s life. It can bring peace, happiness, misery, pride, and despair. As I have thought about money this week and its effect on me over my lifetime. It is something that I have struggled with. It brings me anxiety. I think this comes from my upbringing. My dad was laid off when I was a freshman in high school. This made it so we didn’t have a lot of money growing up to travel or get extra. I remember for several years when we had help from our ward to get our food. One Christmas we had some people from our ward do secret Santa. This time struggling financially was a huge impact on me. I have found myself scared of money. My husband and I are very frugal. We save and we buy what we need but are not too extravagant. The one thing we do splurge on is vacations. We feel that memories and time spent together with each other, and our family is worth the extra. I have also seen a lot of money change people and most of them not for g...

Who Am I?

Who am I? Who do I want to be? This week I read a talk from President Oaks titled, “The Challenge to Become”. We live in a world where it seems we are always being pushed to do something different, be better, have the biggest house, or the latest new car. I don’t know about you, but I feel like to the world, I am always coming up short. But am I? I know whose child I am; therefore, I know who I am. I have divine potential. I can be more than I could ever imagine. It takes faith to move forward in the becoming process. I have been on this earth for over 40 years and in that time, I feel that I have learned some important concepts. It isn’t important what the world thinks or believes, what is important is my relationship with the Savior. How I am living. Am I treating others with that Christ-like love that everyone deserves? President Oaks stated “It is not even enough for us to be convinced of the gospel; we must act and think so that we are converted by it. In contrast to the ins...

Being A Follower Can Help You Be A Leader?

I have always looked up to leaders who I know truly care about not only me but everyone they work with. They may not agree with them, but it is obvious that they take those opportunities to learn and grow as a person. I found Elder Bednar’s address to BYU-I titled “Disciple Leadership” extremely interesting. It talks about how we need to follow Jesus Christ and his example. It made me think how being a follower of Christ actually makes me a leader. One thing I have learned in my life is that the closer I am to the Savior the more open my vision is. Let me explain, I can look with a more eternal perspective. I don’t judge or jump to conclusions as easy. I find that I look for the good in others instead of always finding their faults. I find ways to make life better for those around me. Personally, I am a person who sits back and analyzes the situation. I feel that I read people pretty good and can guess where they are and how certain things affect them. This makes it so I can have...

Hope

As you come to any difficulties or problems in life whether it is in your work life or personal life, there is one thing that kept coming up is to keep going, don’t give up. There are going to be times and circumstances in your life that you don’t think you can move forward but you must.   Perseverance and determination are key to moving forward during the hard times. President Thomas S. Monson shared in his talk, “Looking Back and Moving Forward”, that it is good to see where we have been, but we need to look to the future and move forward with hope. Each of us can change our circumstances and how we do things. Life is about learning and growing. We are going to have our ups and downs, but it is important to move forward with the hope for the future. We need to learn from our past and do better and try to keep improving as time moves on. President Monson shared the importance of each of us helping each other along the path. We can do this by being kind and showing respe...
