Integrity

President Joseph F. Smith called integrity, "the cornerstone of character". What does this have to do with me or with the business world? Integrity means that we are honest and have strong moral principles. I loved thinking about this subject this week. Integrity isn't just important with our job, it is one of the most important attributes you can have in this life. In Sister Sheri L. Dew's talk, "True Blue, Through and Through", she talks about 7 things that will help each of us become men and women of integrity.  "Decide today, once and for all, that you be worth of trust. Have faith that the Lord can and will help you, and then diligently seek His help. Make covenants and keep them. Stand up for what you believe. Expect you integrity to be challenged. Don't give up! Renew your covenants with our Father and His Son to do what you came here to do." Integrity is at the center of who we are. Who do I want to be? I want to be someone who people ...

What Makes You Successful?

This week I read an article about Randy Pausch. He was a successful professor at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Randy was someone who didn't give up. Even if he was told he couldn't, he found a way around that. In this article, Randy had been given a terminal diagnosis with Pancreatic Cancer and had only another 11 months to live. That didn't stop him. Instead of being home and sinking into despair because his life was ending, he was out teaching others how to achieve their dreams. Most of the time I have found this true. Randy to me was an optimist. He may not have achieved all of his goals, but he didn't let failure stop him.  I have thought a lot about that this week. I am one who shies away from failure, but I need to learn to embrace it and learn fro...

Another Start

September 12, 2023  I have started another semester at BYU-I. I am excited about this semester because it is one closer to graduating.  As I have thought about what I want from this semester, I find myself wanting to take the time and enjoy the learning process. I won't have another time like this. As I have been able to get on and start working on my classes I have a few that are surprising me. One of those is Business 110. My first impression was that it was going to be just a class to get me closer to my degree. Lessons Learned:  I didn't have very high expectations for it. As the week has gone on and I have been able to do assignments and start to read the first book, my impression has changed. I am excited about this class and what it will teach me about me. It has quickly become extremely intriguing and one of my favorites. This class isn't about figuring out a business, it will be more about figuring out more about me and what direction I want to take. One of my fa...
