Who Can I Help?

This week I had a chance to reread, “Are we Not All Beggars?” by Elder Jeffrey R. Holland. I do have favorites when it comes to apostles and Elder Holland is my favorite. He has a way of teaching and bringing true emotion to his talks. This one is no different. His powerful and thought-provoking words challenge each of us with our perspective on the concept of worthiness and our dependence on one another. We all need God, and we need His grace and mercy.

I learned from Elder Holland that we can use personal experiences to share our message. It is in our own stories and things we go through and share that we can learn, grow, and help each other along our paths in this life. Elder Holland reminds us that it is through our willingness to recognize our weaknesses and rely on God’s strength that we can find true happiness and fulfillment.

We live in a world where it is kind of every man for themselves way of life. We know that isn’t how it should be. We are here to help each other. It doesn’t matter where we end up in life whether we are rich or poor, leader or a worker each of us has the responsibility to help our brothers and sisters back home. When someone suffers, we need to be there to ease that suffering.

Each of us has a divine nature. We each are a child of God. Elder Holland reminds us that we are not defined by our earthly possessions or achievements but by our inherent value as beloved sons and daughters of a loving Heavenly Father. This profound truth invites us to extend grace and forgiveness to ourselves and others as we navigate the challenges of life. As I reread this talk, I was reminded that as we love others, seek to alleviate the suffering of others, we will find deeper meaning and purpose in our lives.
