Importance
In Elder Joseph B.
Wirthlin's talk, "Little Things Are Important", he states, "the
question is not one of managing time, but one of managing ourselves with the
time we have." I have thought in depth about this all week. What am I
doing with the time I have? Am I using it to the best of my ability? Am I doing
things for others? Am I learning, growing, becoming a better person? I hope
so!
We all have a limited amount of
time on this earth, and I think this week was an important time for me to
reflect on how I am spending my time and how I am interacting with others
during my time here on earth. I want to be remembered as a friend, a loving
mother, and one who loved to serve. I have found in my 45+ years of life that
there is more to life than money. When all you focus on is the next dollar you
miss out on one some of the key moments of your life. The key is to find
something you love, and this will make you better at that thing you decide to
do.
Clayton M. Christensen said,
"the powerful motivator in our lives isn't money; it's the opportunity to
learn, grow in responsibilities, contribute to others, and be recognized for
achievements" ("How Will You Measure Your Life?", Harvard Business
Review, July-August 2010). I loved the thoughts from Clayton Christensen’s article.
He made me want to do better and be better just from words on a page. I will
finish with one more quote from him, “Don’t worry about the level of individual
prominence you have achieved; worry about the individuals you have helped
become better people. Think about the metric by which your life will be judged
and make a resolution to live every day so that in the end, your life will be
judged a success” (Christensen, C., “How Will You Measure Your Life?”, Harvard
Business Review, July-August 2010).
